Friendship is defined as a "relationship of mutual affection between two or more people," and while there are many forms of friendship, all of them are centered around traits like kindness, empathy, honesty, compassion, trust, and perhaps the most important of them all, loyalty.

Many friends, especially best friends, can be equated to the same level as relationships like siblings or other close relatives. They help each other through tough situations, they enjoy each other's company and most times, act as a support system to one another. 

Most people meet their best friends in pre-school, high school, college, the office or even at a bar, and many of these relationships stay with them for an entire lifetime. They get to know each other to the point where they can recite thing about their besties and where they can make a decision for them without needing their input or consent.
