Boy bands were a concept formed in the 1980s. With the rise of New Kids on the Block in the latter half of the decade, boy bands became a phenomenon. Following in the steps of New Kids on the Block, the 1990s introduced two of the best-selling boy bands of all time, Backstreet Boys and *NSYNC.

Backstreet Boys formed in 1993 in Orlando, Florida. The group of five began with AJ McLean, Howie Dorough, and Nick Carter before cousins, Brian Littrell and Kevin Richardson joined. The group would go on to release its first album in 1996. The latest album was released in 2013. With more than 130 million units sold, the Backstreet Boys are not only the best-selling boy band of all time, but one of the best selling artists in general!

Two years after the Backstreet Boys formed, *NSYNC also formed in Orlando, Florida. The group was made up of Justin Timberlake, JC Chasez, Lance Bass, Joey Fatone, and Chris Kirkpatrick. *NSYNC sold more than 55 million records. Some of their hits include "Bye, Bye, Bye" and "It's Gonna Be Me."
